Ahoy! Welcome to Whale Tales.

A relaxed, story-rich watercolour workshop inspired by whales, the ocean, and tales from the deep.

In this session, you’ll learn watercolour techniques while painting our favourite gentle giants of the sea - guided by a Whale Whisperer. The workshop blends art, adventure stories, and a slow sunset atmosphere.

This class is open to all levels - from complete beginners to experienced artists - and runs in a fun, supportive, judgement-free space. I’ll guide you step-by-step, and you’re welcome to work at your own pace. Some of my favourite moments are watching people realise, often with surprise, that they are creative after all.

You’ll leave with your own artwork to take home. As we focus on practice over perfection (and watercolour does have a mind of its own), you may wish to make a few finishing touches later - part of the joy of the medium.

ABOUT YOUR ART GUIDE

Hey, I’m Kate 👋
I’m a multi-disciplinary artist and wildlife photography guide with a love for the wild - and for connecting people to nature, themselves, and each other through art, adventure, and the occasional good dance floor.

Whales hold a very special place in my heart. So much so that I moved to the Pacific island nation of Niue, where I worked as a Whale Whisperer - leading whale swims and immersive courses. Those experiences naturally spilled into my art, and many of the stories and insights from that time are woven into this class.

OUR ART PHILOSOPHY

I truly believe that everyone has the capacity to create. There’s nothing I love more than seeing people light up when they tap into that - often for the first time.

Art, to me, is about learning how to see. I’ll share simple, effective techniques that have been passed down through my family of artists and taught to hundreds of students over the years - tools that help un-trick the brain and unlock confidence on the page.

Art is also a sensory, immersive experience, and I like that to be part of the class: stories, atmosphere, and a sense of ease as much as technique.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

• All art materials

• A 2.5-hour guided session combining watercolour tuition, practice, and storytelling.
  

WHAT TO BRING

We’ll send through a few details beforehand, but you’re welcome to BYO snacks, wine, or a beverage of choice.
If you have your own paints or brushes, feel free to bring them along.
Wear old clothes you don’t mind getting paint on or dedicate a favourite outfit as your artist uniform 😉

CLASS SIZE

Classes are capped at 8 people, keeping things intimate and relaxed, with plenty of opportunity for one-on-one guidance throughout the workshop.
